Tracey and Jordan's themed "Break the Code" Wedding Door Games
Door games are great for weddings because in tradition, the noise and laugher scares away the evil spirits and brings good luck to ones family. Some of you may have witnessed the action-filled challenges for the groom and his entourage, or the brutal punishments announced by the bridesmaids; they are the bride's guardians, so of course they're allowed to do that.
For this round of door game, in order to come up with a theme or 'game plan', Tracey the bride and I have chatted about the things that she liked and what her fiancé Jordan and her have in common. We wanted to find unique elements that could be used in the games to reflects who they are and display the interests that they've shared.
So with some help from Tracey and her bridesmaids, we decided on the 3 challenges below:
Nappy change. Because both Tracey and Jordan loves babies, so we wanted to see how well the boys can remove the dirty nappies from Tracey's plushy babies, and replacing fresh nappies onto them - blind folded.
Bake a Yuzu cheesecake. Tracey loves to bake, so this challenge is to test the boys on their kitchen hand capabilities; with a mix of correct and false ingredients, they must use their best judgements and place the correct ingredients onto the poster to 'make' the cake successfully.
Rock Wiz. Tracey likes music and Jordan likes to sing, so this challenge is for the boys to guess the songs that we play. The hard part is that they only get to listen to the song for 3 seconds, and must guess the song name and artist.
A spinning wheel of surprise challenges are in place for them to either do something, i.e. dancing, singing; OR tasting the bad flavours in life, i.e. bitter melon, wasabi marshmallow etc.
Because both Tracey and Jordan likes to play video games (more so Jordan I guess...), so it's a code breaking theme. This meant that every time that Jordan and his entourage completes a challenge and/or the punishments that followed, they would be given with an one digit number. The boys wouldn't know this at the start but, the 3 numbers together makes up T&J's anniversary date, and it is the code to a locket on Tracey's door. The groom would have to figure that out, otherwise he won't be able to get to the bride! Hence why it's "BREAK THE CODE".
So there you go! Door games can be taken to another new level with your creative and fun energy; it can be beyond eating yukky things to get to the bride!
Here are some helpful tips and things to note for the door game designers/bridesmaids:
On the morning of the wedding day, times flies. Soo quickly that no matter how early you woke to get ready, there just don't seem to be enough time. So do the game briefing prior to the day, so that the bride and the bridesmaids are all on the same page. Also if you are not staying over the night before, ask for all the equipment that you will need and have them stored in a box for you. This will minimise the time you spend waiting on those things to be given to you, or looking for them.
If time is tight, then ensure that all the props and equipment to the door games are prepared 30 minutes prior to the scheduled arrival of the groom
I always advise the bridesmaids to make the challenges as visual as possible, e.g. using posters, because they can look great in photos
Grant wifi access to the person live streaming the door game for the bride. As the bride would be hidden away in a room, that way she could still watch the door games, it also makes it easier if the bride is still not ready, to communicate the necessity of time stalling.
Be considerate of the bride, groom and the groomsmen, as they still need to smell nice for the rest of the day. Avoid nasty food challenges if as the groom would be (made to) kiss the bride all day still! Unless if that makes your gal happy, then by all means go crazy!
